MYTH
The cats are scratching my car!
FACT
If you can’t scratch off the paint with your fingernail, cats can’t scratch it off too.
Even in half-decent condition, a car’s lacquer finish is tough to be scratched off easily by cats because their claws are just the same hardness as our fingernails. However, if the car has been waxed, a cat’s claws can remove some of the wax, leaving what looks like paint scratches but are, in fact, just places where the surface of the wax has been removed.
MYTH
stray cats will cause diseases!
FACT
Vaccinated community cats are safe and protected from diseases.
Once the community cats are vaccinated against rabies and given regular anti-parasites and flea treatment to keep them healthy, this will no longer be the case. However, this needs support to implement proper measures for vaccinating the cats.
MYTH
Stray cats poop and pee everywhere!
FACT
Cats do not poop and pee everywhere.
Covering their “business” is an instinct that kittens are born with, and they begin this ritual as soon as possible. It’s not in their nature to leave their waste exposed. They will likely find a spot where they can bury their waste or defecate in spaces you will never see.
MYTH
Someone should be liable for damages caused by stray cats!
FACT
Community cats are still stray cats, no one owns them.
Community cats are different from owned pets. The nature of their existence is still similar to that of strays. The only thing that sets them apart is that there are volunteers who spend their own time and resources for the cats’ needs for the benefit of the entire community.
If left unmanaged, stray cats are more likely to cause harm. So with volunteers’ efforts and initiatives, damages in the community are minimized. But should there be “damages” caused by them, seek accountability from nature, as how you would seek accountability from strays outside the community.
